Chimney stack take down an rebuild Eastbourne

Client: Mr E Heatherington

Location: Old Town, Eastbourne

Project Duration: 3 weeks

Project Overview

Mr Heatherington was experiencing severe damp issues caused by a poorly constructed and inadequately repaired chimney stack. The solution involved a complete takedown and rebuild of the chimney to ensure long-term durability and too resolve the damp problem.

Scope of Work

1. Scaffolding Setup:

Scaffolding was erected to provide safe and secure access to the chimney stack.

2. Chimney Takedown:

The existing chimney stack was carefully dismantled to below roof level to eliminate any damaged or substandard materials.

3. Rebuild with Ibstock Bricks:

The chimney was rebuilt using high-quality Ibstock bricks and a sand, lime, and cement mortar. This ensured structural integrity while maintaining an appropriate aesthetic for the property.

4. Leadwork Installation:

  • A new lead tray, back gutter, and apron were fabricated and installed using code 5 lead.
  • All leadwork was neatly turned in and pointed to ensure a watertight finish, and patination oil was applied to protect and enhance the lead’s appearance.

5. Flaunching, Pots, and Cowls:

The chimney was finished with new pots and cowls, along with new flaunchings, ensuring proper ventilation and weatherproofing.

6. Roof Tile Repairs:

Any damaged roof tiles surrounding the chimney were repaired or replaced to complete the project.
